  • housing,
  • reconstruction,
  • disaster mitigation,
  • organizational design,
  • social issues,
  • sustainable development,
  • urban studies,
  • etc.

This knowledge transfer can potentially avoid repeating previous mistakes we have identified in other post-disaster situations.

Since, the reconstruction will take years, one of the bottom up and most effective means of rebuilding through knowledge transfer is offering scholarships to train Haitians at Canadian schools in housing, disaster mitigation and urban studies. Canadian-Haitians are the most equipped to understand their own culture and the needs of their people on the long terms. This training could be an enduring form of empowerment for the locals and would sustain the effort of rebuilding beyond the short scope work of relief organizations and NGOs.
